Tight muscles aren't broken.
If you've ever felt disorganized about your own body, a dozen little aches, no systematic approach to address any of them, you're not alone.

Tight, achy muscles aren't malfunctioning. They're doing exactly what they evolved to do: protect you. The problem is that most of us haven't had guidance on how to work with that inclination to protect.

We've been told to stretch. But stretching can leave you feeling more disconnected from your body, not less, because you're fighting a reflex instead of working with it.

Slackening does the opposite. It's a set of strategies that speak the muscle's own language: bring the two ends of a tight muscle closer together, and you signal that its protective job is done.

No forcing. No resistance. Just a pathway back to feeling connected and comfortable.
Program Overview
AT EASE is a live, four-session online program that gives you an expert framework for working with your body. It's what you've  been missing.

This is for people who've already put in the effort: who eat well, move regularly, do all the right things — and are still stuck with tightness, bracing, and the exhausting choice between pushing harder or giving up.

AT EASE gives you a third option: a systematic approach that finally gets you on the right track.

"Slackening, for me, it's kind of magical."
— Dan
"I have some tools in my toolbox for when I do feel stiff."
— Sue
How It Works
  • 60 seconds in one slackening position can signal a single muscle group to stand down
  • Multiple muscle groups can be signaled at once
  • Noticeable, felt shifts in as little as 5-20 minutes
  • Works passively, while you're doing other things: One student slackens leg and hip muscles during multi-hour DJ sets. No more recovery soreness the next day
Join AT EASE and You'll Walk Away With
Fast Relief:  no waiting for weeks or months to find out if it's working
A systematic approach that you understand and trust, not just follow blindly
The discernment to perceive what your body needs: When to slacken, when to strengthen — until taking care of yourself stops being a conscious decision and becomes automatic
Program Structure
  • Four live sessions: Thursdays, November 5, 19, December 3, 17
  • 10 minutes social, 40 minutes instruction, 10 minutes closing
  • Two time slots each day — 9 am ET and 6 pm ET — attend either or both
a slackening framework to release
muscle  tension and ease chronic pain
Live sessions meet via Zoom at 9am + 6pm ET
on these Thursdays: Nov 5, 19, Dec 3, 17

Effort isn't the thing you've been missing.
You've already proven you have discipline.

You've done the routines, tried the stretches, read the articles. In a sea of information, it's hard to even know what's credible anymore.

If nothing has stuck, it's not because you didn't try hard enough. It's because you haven't had a conceptual framework you could trust.

AT EASE doesn't ask you to work harder. It hands you strategies to finally get on the right track, so relief stops being something you chase and starts being something automatic.

For students who have learned this work with Paula, it has been life altering.

FAQ
Do I need to slacken every day for this to work?
No, and that's the point. stretching asks you for discipline every single day, and most of us already know how that goes. You can slacken occasionally, when you feel you need it.

Also, slackening can work passively, while you're doing other things. A felt shift is possible in 5-20 minutes. You're not trading one daily grind for another.
I've tried a hundred things already. How is this different?
Most of what's out there is scattered information without a systematic approach; a stretch here, a foam roller there. No sense of how any of it connects.

AT EASE isn't one more technique to add to the pile. It's a conceptual framework. Once you understand why slackening works, you'll know which muscle groups need it and when. No more guessing.
How do I know this is credible, and not just another fad?
AT EASE is built on the same soft-tissue and nervous-system principles Paula has been using for years in her private sessions and group classes.

This program is taught live. You can ask questions as you see how it works for your body in real time, not just take it on faith.
I don't have a lot of time. Is this going to be one more thing on my plate?
Each class session is 30 minutes of teaching plus an optional 10 minutes of social time at the beginning and 10 minutes of closing at the end. Live sessions are offered in the morning and evening so that you can fit it around your schedule. We meet every other week.

Because it doesn't require your full attention, you can slacken while doing other things; reading, working, watching a movie, standing in line at a store. No need to carve yet more dedicated time from an already full schedule.
Will this interfere with my physical therapy, chiropractic care, or other treatment?
No. AT EASE works alongside what you're already doing. As one student put it, it "enhances other disciplines," it doesn't distract from them.

If you're currently under a provider's care for a specific injury or condition, it's worth mentioning AT EASE to them. Nothing in this program asks you to stop other things that are working for you.
Does this involve any medication or supplements?
No. AT EASE is a positional, body-based approach to pain relief without medication.
I'm older and dealing with some health concerns (balance, joint issues, osteoporosis). Is this safe for me?
Yes, this is a profile Paula knows well — including a retired nurse managing hip bursitis, balance concerns, and early ostopenia. She has stayed active for years using this approach.

Slackening works with the muscles instead of forcing them. It is a gentle approach that provides quick relief from tension. It does not add stress to your body.

That said, if you have specific medical concerns, it's always worth a quick check with your provider before starting anything new.
What if I can't make the live sessions?
Classes will be recorded.

The Release + Reference and Release + Guidance packages include lifetime recording access. You can revisit any session as often as you like on your own schedule. The Release package includes 8 weeks of recording access (through January 3).
Will I actually remember how to do this after the course ends?
That's the goal. Paula will present and sequence the techniques so that you understand why you're doing them and how they work. You don't need to memorize what to do, you'll just implement what you need when you need it.

Course participants describe reaching a point where slackening has become automatic; something they do without thinking.

The PDF Reference Guide (included in two of the three packages) is there for whenever you want a quick refresher.

Your Guide: Paula James
Movement Educator
Relief without a research project
For anyone stuck between pushing harder and stretching further

Paula James is the founder of Flourish with Paula, where she works as a movement educator. She lives in Maryland, where she plays music, dances, and walks in the woods.

Paula's own introduction to this work wasn't professional, it was personal. A minor vehicle accident left her with ten years of low back and neck pain. She saw doctor after doctor and still hurt every day. What finally worked wasn't trying harder, it was learning to move differently. That shift became the foundation of over two decades spent training in movement, alignment, and nervous-system-based approaches, including specialized work in releasing chronic muscle tension that most people never encounter outside a practitioner's office. Paula now brings that same territory-mapping to her students: not another set of exercises to add to the pile, but an understanding of what their own body actually needs, and why.

Paula developed AT EASE because so many people carrying chronic tension are stuck choosing between pushing harder and stretching further, and neither one is working for them. AT EASE teaches a different approach: releasing tight muscles by signaling them that their job is done, rather than fighting them into submission. Delivered live over four sessions, with morning and evening options, it's built for people who are tired of researching solutions on their own and want relief they can feel and trust, along with the judgment to know what their body needs on any given day. It's for anyone whose body has been stiff, sore, or sidelined despite doing everything they were told to do — and who'd like to get back to the activities, and the people, they don't want tension taking away from them.

With Paula, you're not evaluated for keeping up  — you're warmly welcomed, and shown a way back to a body you can trust and enjoy.
